Two new species of Acacia (Leguminosae: Mimosoideae)

2016
the many taxonomic problems to be found within the genus. Morphological diversity is especially great in Brazil, both between and within species. In the Brazilian caatinga (dry, deciduous thorn scrub) some Acacia species form a dominant element of the vegetation, while in the Atlantic coastal forests and restingas (coastal vegetation on podsolized sands) several diverse species are to be encountered, ranging from prickly climbers to large trees. In describing two more new legume species from Bahia, I continue tidying up loose ends not dealt with in my account of the family (Lewis, 1987), and describing new taxa that have been collected since. Both of these new Acacia species are known by only one collection and the first is still unknown in fruit. Both species have eglandular anthers.
