A Newsfeed as an Experimental Environment for Information Management

A C2 newsfeed – as part of a Command and Control Information System (C2IS) – is a service that provides short text messages on changes in the theatre of operations and thereby contributes to situational awareness. A newsfeed requires functions for assuring both the relevance and the clarity of its messages. It turns out to be a promising test bed for the development and testing of automated information management services, among them filtering services. We will describe the architecture of a newsfeed that can be used both as a C2 service and as an experimental environment for information management. We will also describe a demonstrator that has been realized as a proof of concept.
