Interests and types of solidarity in union-community alliances

2018
This chapter explores the different kinds of union solidarity that can underpin union-community coalitions. It gives language and labels to different expressions of solidarity, which vary from coalitions being based on issues held in common to deep relationships or a shared sense of place. Through case studies these labels are used to identify the strengths and limitations of each of these types of solidarity. The hope is that these labels can allow scholars and unionists to better understand the strengths and limitations of their coalition practice.
