Paths of the electroreduction of 2,2'-bipyridyl

1987
Abstract Experimental results in polarography and photopolarography indicate that the primary product of the two-electron electroreduction of 2,2′-bipyridyl in alkaline solution, the dihydrobipyridyl anion, reacts with cations in the compact part of the double layer. The implications of this reaction in the mechanism of the electroreduction of 2,2′-bipyridyl in aqueous solutions are discussed.
