The invention provides a method for collecting a PMU (Performance Monitor Unit) event. The method comprises the following steps: the width of a PMU counter and the amount of the PMU counter are set, wherein the width of the PMU counter can be reduced, the amount of the PMU counter can be increased, and the amount of the PMU counter can be set according to the width of the PMU counter to improve data acquisition efficiency; and when task information is received and a corresponding task is executed, the PMU counter is triggered to collect the PMU event for the task so as to collect a corresponding performance index when the task is executed. The invention also provides a device for collecting the PMU event. The method and the device can be adopted to be favorable for improving performance index acquisition efficiency.
