State-selective electron capture in collisions of He[sup 2+] with aligned Na* (3[ital p]) atoms
1993
The first results of a study of single electron capture processes in the quasi one-electron system He[sup 2+]+Na at collision energies of 3--10 keV/u are presented. We report on charge exchange from laser excited sodium atoms into the near-resonant He II ([ital n]=4) level as function of the spatial alignment of the active electron. The alignment parameter was found to change sign around the classical velocity of the Na (3[ital p]) electron in agreement with new CTMC calculations of Olson and Pascale.[sup 6]
