Cold Mass Support Structure Design of MRI Superconducting Magnet Developed by IHEP

2015
A tie rod made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) is introduced in this paper. A 2-D cold mass support structure made of CFRP tie rods, which is used in magnetic resonance imaging superconducting magnets, is discussed in detail. Concretely, three main aspects of the cold mass support structure are taken into consideration, including conductive heat leak, structure strength, and mechanical vibration properties. Analysis results show that the design of the cold mass support structure is reasonable. In addition, an optimal design of the cold mass support structure is given based on considering the three main aspects aforementioned.
