Business model innovation within a Swedish manufacturing company : A study on the impacts of digitalization in a mid-size Swedishmanufacturing company

Rapid innovations in technology during the past decades has enabled new business possibilities, which in manyareas has outcompeted old business models. Especially small companies are having problems keeping up inthe process of reevaluating their business model with regards to the possibilities of new technologies.The focus in this thesis has been to describe the process of moving to a digital business and the use of digitaltechnologies by changing the business model and value-producing opportunity. This especially for the inSweden important manufacturing industry. Our purpose was to find a way on how companies should workwith their business model and what they had to do, and to find proper tools to help them to be successful withtheir digital transformation. This was done by a literature study, surveys, and interviews with a company weretheir business model where analyzed with help of the Business Model Canvas.We found in the theory typical enablers for a successful digital transformation, such as top management skills,organizations capabilities, aligned vision and strategy to be at least as important as a technology, which wasalso supported by our empirical findings.
