Application of a Power Quality Comprehensive Compensation Device in 10 kV Sparse Distribution Network: Modeling and Simulation

2020
Sparse power distribution networks are widely found in remote areas in western China, with features such as wide coverage, low load density, and few power points. Many problems in the operation of 10kV sparse distribution network indicate that traditional fixed reactive power compensation is difficult to meet operating requirements. This paper proposes a power quality comprehensive compensator (PQCC), including parallel static synchronous compensators and series voltage regulators. Using PSCAD/EMTDC software, a system simulation model including a power electronic compensation device was established. The optimization method of compensation device location based on a certain compensation capacity is studied, and the best configuration plan of the equipment location is given. The article evaluates the performance of the distribution network with PQCC devices, and studies the electromagnetic transient characteristics under typical fault conditions. Combining the steady-state and transient characteristics of the system, the simulation results indicate that the proposed compensation device has a good effect in steady-state operations, and also has obvious reliability in transient conditions. The results have guiding significance for the design and construction of actual projects.
