Effects of exchange interactions on magnetic anisotropy and spin-dynamics of adatoms on metallic surfaces

2015
We show that strong direct and substrate-mediated interactions are the forerunner in the hysteresis occurrence of magnetic adatoms deposited on metallic surfaces. The intricate balance between exchange and anisotropy leads the magnetic response of the adatoms reflected in the magnetization curves. By tailoring such interactions through their separation distance the onset of hysteresis can be controlled. Further, the meaningful influence of the exchange interactions on the magnetic anisotropy behavior is also evidenced.
