Drop-in plastics

Abstract This chapter mainly focuses on bioplastics, catalytic processes, and other technologies for the synthesis of drop-in bioplastics and their applications in different areas. These bioplastics are mainly prepared through biomass and other natural materials. All the plastic materials were synthesized through appropriate starting compounds by using a suitable catalyst. The development and introduction of different plastics make numerous applications in various fields, such as mechanical, agricultural, construction, electronic engineering, healthcare textiles, medical equipment, packaging, and consumer goods, etc. The bioplastics, such as bio-polyethylene, bio-polypropylene, and bio-polyethylene terephthalate are specialized bioplastics having great attention in the research. The structural and biodegradable properties of bioplastics were discussed briefly.
