Investigation of Effects of Length and Width of Water Tree in 6.6 kV XLPE Cable on DC Leakage and AC Superposition Currents by Using Transient Electric Field Analysis

2020
A penetrated water tree found in dry-cured and extruded three-layer (E-E type) 6.6 kV cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables was modeled, DC leakage and AC superposition currents were calculated by using transient electric field analysis, and the calculated and measured currents were compared. In addition, water trees were assumed as spheroidal ones, and DC leakage and AC superposition currents were analyzed when the length and width of the water tree changed.
