A fault-tolerant control approach for aircraft engine using a bank of LMI-based UIO filters

2011
In this paper, we focus on the problem of the fault-tolerant control (FTC) of aircraft in the presence of both unknown input disturbance and sensor failure. In the proposed method, the sensor faults will be detected by a full-order unknown input observer (UIO), and then the faults will be isolated by a bank of UIOs in the framework of the generalized observer scheme. Finally, the faulty sensor measurement will be accommodated by a modified full-order UIO. One notable feature of the proposed FTC algorithm is that the design of UIO will become more reliable and robust in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Eventually, the performance of the FTC system has been evaluated in a nonlinear engine simulation with various sensor faults at cruise operating conditions, and the results indicate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
