Slab reheating furnace temperature control using AI

Abstract A new control of slab reheating furnace temperature is developed for implementation on steel making plant. This control engages knowledge-based system in addition to mathematical control, so that we may take measures to meet the increasing demand of operation flexibility, energy saving and economizing. It calculates and outputs the realtime setting value of reheating furnace with a period of 2 minutes. This control has been in real operation at several steel making plants, where about 80% operation-rate and 11° accuracy of slab extracting temperature have been obtained., In order to realize the new knowledge-based control system we have also developed Realtime Al tool’ which helps the operators to build up the knowledge-base easily. This tool is also described in this paper.
