Aspectos da radiação ultravioleta solar em Natal/RN

It was studied the behavior of the ultraviolet radiation with wavelengths of 305 nm, 320 nm, 340 nm and 380 nm, measured in Natal - RN - Brazil, in the period from January 2001 to December 2007. The measurements were carried out using the GUV (ground ultraviolet radiometer) of the Laboratorio de Variaveis Ambientais Tropicais – LAVAT / INPE – CRN. High levels of UV were recorded during all the years considered in the study. It was observed a periodicity in the variation of the radiation in the period considered, decreasing in the months of June and July and increasing from October. Hypotheses are advanced for explanation of the phenomenon and comments on the implications for the health of the local population.
