Energy Efficiency of CARQ Broadcast Protocol

Differences in wired communication, the wireless energy consumption cannot be calculated on each link because of its natural characters, that is, when the sender broadcasts a packet which can be transmitted on many links simultaneously, but the energy consumption can be calculated only once. At the same time, if neighbor nodes which had successfully accepted the packet assist communication to improve the transmission reliability, the energy consumption computation is more complex. In view of broadcast characteristics, this paper first proposes the concept of reliability and energy consumption for general tree broadcast network. To assure system statistical reliability, the minimum value of maximum retransmission number is given to balance reliability and energy consumption, then the minimum system energy consumption is obtained based on the CARQ broadcast protocol. Finally, the numerical simulation discussed the relationships between the system performance indexes. Numerical results show that the energy efficiency of the CARQ is much better than that of the ARQ scheme.
