ENGINEERING DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A LOW ASPECT RATIO TORSATRON: THE TJ-I UPGRADE

TJ-IU is a low aspect ratio torsatron (R 0 = 0.6 m, 〈a〉 = 0.1 m, B 0 = 0.5 T, I = 1, m=6) under construction at CIEMAT and to be completed by the beginning of next year. It will share power supplies, control system and site with TJ-I tokamak. This paper summarizes the main features of the engineering design. Details of the construction of the device are also discussed.
