Elliptical Shape CPW Antenna for Breast Cancer Detection Applications

An improved method for enhancing the antenna gain and bandwidth is presented in this paper, which is ideal for detecting malignant cells in the breast by microwave imagery. When the ground of the antenna is slotted with the addition of an elliptical patch, the radiation of the antenna is increased with more bandwidth. The working fractional bandwidth of the planned antenna is 112.85% with a compact size (0.269λx0.269λx0.0091λ) and an omnidirectional pattern with a maximum gain of 3.8 dB. One antenna used as transmitter at one side of breast and other antenna used as receiver at the other side of the breast, from which we got backscattering signal.
