Investigation of Liquid-Metal Magnetohydrodynamic Power Systems.

1970
Abstract : Detailed cycle and component analysis were performed to: establish overall efficiency and performance characteristics of a 'low-temperature,' two-phase, liquid-metal MHD power cycle; and to identify and evaluate critical problem areas that require research and development programs. First, a mathematical model, which calculates individual component efficiency and overall cycle efficiency for a single-state concept, was developed and programmed for a digital computer. Next, a Standard Cycle was established and adapted for comparison studies in which major cycle parameters, generator parameters, and working fluids were varied to evaluate their effect on overall system performance.
