Synthesis of New Hydroxybenzo[a]carbazoles

An investigation of the alkylation sites of 4,7-dihydroxybenzo[ A]pyrrolo[3,4- C]carbazole-1,3(2 H,8 H)-dione,as well as the site of reduction in the maleimide upper ring, wascarried out which resulted in the synthesis of diversely substituted4-hydroxybenzo[ A]pyrrolo[3,4- C]carbazoles. Moreover, thesynthesis of 5,6-dicyano-1,4-dihydroxy-11 H-benzo[ A]carbazole was performed in whichthe maleimide ring of the above scaffold is missing and is replacedby electron-withdrawing nitrile groups.
