The Web of Smart Entities - Towards a Theory of the Next Generation of the Internet of Things.

Abstract We describe a likely future scenario of the internet of things. We formalize this scenario to develop a theory of a web of smart software entities that manage and regulate routine behavior. The web of smart entities is informed by data, whether from sensors, manually entered data, or data from other smart entities. Smart entities build models that capture routine behavior and they are authorized to act. This authority will lead to yet unforeseen levels of automation. We describe the likely effects of automation on several stakeholders as well as relate several modes in which to interact with and control the resulting automation.
