A Grid Side Converter for Controlling the Injection of Energy into the Grid in a Wind Energy Conversion System

2018
In this paper it is presented the design of the control system of the grid side converter of a back to back configuration. This converter is used for controlling the active and the reactive energy injected into the grid, which is generated by a doubly feed induction generator based wind energy conversion system. Throughout the paper four Proportional Integral (PI) controllers are designed, all these PI controllers are based on vector control theory. An anti-windup strategy, based on a two degrees of freedom controller, is implemented in order to charge the DC link capacitor for the first time. Simulations are carried out using MATLAB/Simulink, where the control system stability and performance of the converter are evaluated. Finally, the results so obtained are analyzed and discuss.
