Design of Optimum Configuration and techno-economic analysis of a Hybrid Power System

2019
Due to shortage of power and losses Pakistan is facing load shedding up to sixteen hours in some reigns of the country in summer season. This causes disturbance in daily routine life and disruption in case of sensitive loads like academics work and hospitals. Diesel generators are used as an alternate source in the shortage hours which has very high fuel cost, noise and emissions. The purpose of this paper is to study the integration of photovoltaic generators into an existing diesel-unreliable grid connected system at Shifa Hospital, Lakki Marwat. The main goal of implementing hybrid system is to reduce the consumption of diesel and the import of fossil fuel used. Detailed simulations and financial analysis of four different cases are performed with HOMER to compare different systems and their viability. PV-diesel hybrid system is proposed with a PV capacity of 25 kW, existing diesel capacity with 50 kw, an inverter output of 30 kW and battery bank. The system renewable fraction is 28.4% and the project life cycle is 25 years. The PV-diesel hybrid system is projected to produce electricity at a cost of 14PKR/KWh. This cost is significantly lower than the production cost of the existing diesel generator and grid system which is 32PKR/KWh. The suggested system significantly reduces the pollutant gases by 50%.
