2012
FAMILY FARMING AND SUSTAINABLE COEXISTENCE WITH AN INTERDISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE Abstract: This text proposes a dialogue between family farming and sustainable development. It is a theoretical study about the kind of work in rural areas and the need for its reorganization, thus preserving the solidarity dimension and, at the same time, enabling the appropriation of technologies which enhance the productivity of the properties and preserves the impacts of this environmental, economic, social and cultural dimension. It proposes an adaptation of technological processes which maintain the sustainability of this environment and it draws the attention to the role that public policies play in the viability of such a proposal. It approaches the dimension of social responsibility, and it puts forward that being familiar is not always an attribute for an ethical management. Efforts, in this regard, are needed. It is concluded that, although this agriculture has its peculiarities, it can contribute to sustainable development, in case it is examined when it is integrated to broader systems. It presents as a productive alternative the logical practices which prevail in the market. Key words: Family farming, sustainable development, interdisciplinary.
