Identifying washing machine consumption in supervised global electric consumption

In a domestic context, NILM applications (Non- Intrusive Load Monitoring) allow users to know their electric consumption per appliance without having to install sensors for each appliance in their house. The washing machine consumption represents approximately 5 to 10 % of a domestic electric consumption in Belgium. The aim of this paper is to present a new method for the identification of washing machines based on cyclic behavior of this appliance and transient power pattern recognition. Results of the study rely on supervised data obtained by sub-metering at the level of each appliance for 3 real domestic houses.
