Design of Dual-Band Elliptical Patch Reflectarray Antenna with High Power Handling Capacity

2020
In this paper, a high power handling capacity circularly polarized C/X dual-band reflectarray antenna is presented. The elliptical patch without abrupt structure is proposed to be used as the high power handling capacity element for the two separate frequency bands. The dual-band elements are arranged in the same grid period. The patches are embedded into the substrate to further improve the power capacity. Rotating the patches in the two bands separately, the 360° phase shift can be achieved. Comparing with existing works, the proposed elements shows higher power handling capacity. A reflectarray antenna with the aperture size of 345 mm is designed and simulated for verification. The simulated results show that at 6.2 GHz, the antenna gain is 24.7 dB, the aperture efficiency is 46.2%, the axial ratio is 0.7 dB, and the power capacity is more than 100 MW. At 9.3 GHz, the antenna gain is 27.8 dB, the aperture efficiency is 41.8%, the axial ratio is 1.3 dB, and the power capacity is exceeds 22 MW. The results verify the dual-band and high power handling capacity performance of the reflectarray antenna.
