Influences of rare-earth Nd modification on friction and wear properties of Al-(18,22,26)Si alloy

Hypereutectic Al-(18,22,26)Si alloys were prepared by modification treatment of adding Nd,and the influence of Nd on cast microstructure and wear properties of Al-(18,22,26)Si was studied.The results show that the amount and size of primary silicon become large with the increase of silicon content;when Nd content of Al-(18,22,26)Si is 0.5%,primary silicon is obviously refined and transformed from larger plate and polyhedron into small polyhedron,the sharp edge becomes more smooth.Meanwhile,the wear resistance of the alloy is improved with the addition of silicon,the wear rate of alloy decreases to 1.284,0.853,0.785 m3(/N·m),compared with 1.457 3,1.118 1,0.966 2 m3(/N·m)before modification.
