The medical conversation with the patient is a high art, that represents a complex challenge to the personality of the beginning doctor. It can be learnt, however, it must be practiced. Therefore, the education in medical conversation should be started as far as possible at an early stage in the career of the doctor. The medical conversation with the patient serves the information, clarification, round, admission, dismissal or consultation. The anamnesis that primarily has a diagnostic motif is most common. According to C. R. Rogers the basic elements of the patient-centered medical conversation are positive appreciation, self congruence and authenticity as well as empathy. 3 Stages can be distinguished: I. Active sympathetic listening, II. Paraphrasing, i. e. report back the own understanding of the said to the patient and III. Verbalizing of emotional experience contents. Mistakes of the medical conversation including the non-verbal communication of the patient should be avoided as much as possibly.
