Weed control in pastures

2020
Abstract A weed by definition is “a plant that is not valued where it is growing and is usually of vigorous growth.” In pasture systems, weeds can reduce carrying capacity, compete with desired forage for moisture and nutrients, and some may pose a health risk to livestock. Using an integrated approach that combines cultural, mechanical, and chemical methods can help manage weed populations. Deciding which method to use depends on the weed(s) being controlled and the infestation level. When using chemicals to control weeds the herbicide label should be closely followed with respect to application rate and follow-up cleanup instructions.
