Participative Climate as a Key for Creating Healthy Workplaces
2016
An increasing number of studies have shown the importance of participative climate in
order to manage growing demands in matters of change and workloads in contemporary
organizations. By reflecting on the case of five major Japanese pharmaceutical companies
undergoing recent mergers and/or acquisitions (M&A), the authors explore the
association between the presence of participative climate on one hand, and health and
work motivation on the other, in order to clarify how this work climate helps create
healthy workplaces. The analysis helps build an improved understanding of the role and
the repercussions of participative climate and provides implications for future research
and practice.
