Thrombectomy Techniques: Stent Retriever – Balloon Guide

Endovascular therapy (EVT) has evolved over the last years to become the main treatment modality for acute ischemic stroke from large vessel occlusion (LVO). Several recent randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) have demonstrated the effectiveness of mechanical thrombectomy with stent retrievers. Different procedural approaches have been developed including the use of balloon guide catheter (BGC). BGC technique has been proved to carry higher odds of first-pass recanalization, more frequent TICI 3 or 2b/3 scores, good clinical outcome (mRS < 2), and lower mortality odds.
