Strength andProcessing Properties using aPhotopolymer Resin inaPowder-based 3DPProcess

2006
DP(three dimensional printing) technology isoneofSFF(solid freeform fabrication) technologies which haverecently comeinto aspotlight duetoits adaptability tovarious applications. Thistechnology hasagreat advantage interms ofshort fabrication timeforaprototype atalowcost, especially whenitcomeswithmulti-nozzle inkjet printing technology. However, ithasalso adisadvantage since itrequires additional curing time, after jetting abinder material, andpost-processing timeinorder toincrease themechanical strength ofaproduct. Inthis study, anovel 3DP process isproposed toovercome slowsolidification andelaborate post-process byadopting photo curing method into theconventional 3DPprocess. Mechanical properties, suchastensile andbending strengths, ofspecimens fabricated withtheproposed 3DPprocess weremeasured andcompared withthose fabricated withtheconventional 3DPprocess. Asaresult, itisfound that mechanical strengths ofspecimens fromtheproposed novel 3DPprocess showthree times higher thanthose fromtheconventional 3DPprocess. Besides, theoverall fabrication timewiththeproposed novel 3DPprocess isabout twotimes faster thanthat withtheconventional 3DPprocess, because itdoesnotneedadditional curing andpost-processing time.
