WHY IT WORKS INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT (ISD) PROCESS

1990
Training within the Air Force must equip personnel to perform their duties. Providing more training than necessary is wasteful, while not providing enough will potentially result in operational problems. To develop an effective training system, the Air Force designed and implemented the Instructional System Development (ISD) process. The ISD process allows for the orderly development and modification of Air Force education and training' programs to ensure costeffective instruction that produces graduates who possess the necessary operational skills. An effective ISD application begins with the definition of training goals and is followed by the development of an instructional system to meet these goals. This extensive process has proven to be effective when applied correctly but is difficult to implement, manage, and update due to its complexity.
