A Frame-theory-based Interpretation of Ulysses by James Joyce

2012
Ulysses is the representative work of the stream-of-consciousness novels by James Joyce.Frequent employment of the means of stream of consciousness makes the novel very hard to understand.Frame,as a cognitive concept, helps interpret the discourse.Conceptual frame, situational frame and social culture frame, which are the three most influential angles of view of the frame theory, help to understand the prototypes, the plot and formation of the characters. The frame theory gives readers a new visual angle of discourse understanding.
