A new idea on road safety using smartphone

2017
Now a days use of smartphone has become an integral part of our life. Smartphone comes as the solution to most of the problem that we face in today's world. Smartphone is a special type of phone which combines the features of an ordinary mobile phone and also having many features like a PC. This type of phone generally runs by advanced operating system like android, windows, etc. which facilitates use of many computer apps (e.g., games, whatsapp, word document etc.). In brief, both computer and mobile work can be done simultaneously in a smartphone. Due to its advanced features, people are much more addicted to smartphones and they keep themselves busy with their smartphones while crossing roads, railway tracks. They inadvertently don't bother to listen to the car-horn, railway engine horn or announcement. Instead of becoming alert, they continue themselves busy with activities such as gaming, messaging, phone calls etc., which actually leads to accident. This paper proposes an idea using safety app as a smart solution for the safety of such persons who indulge in such careless activities. A specific smartphone app to be developed by manufacturer or any designer will be preinstalled in the smartphone to take care of these eventualities. This application will pass on a voice message, transmitted from an FM transmitter installed in vehicle or railway engine, to the speaker or earphone of smartphone (to be played for specific duration) when any car or train approaches within 50 meters range from a person or persons and at the same time disable all other smartphone activities so that, after listening the voice message the person(s) will be forcefully alerted and thus accident can be avoided. The app will always be at active mode even the smartphone is in switched OFF mode. If the proposed idea is properly implemented, it can save many lives from road accidents, rail accidents etc. and will probably make a mark in the world of smartphone apps.
