An Antlion Optimization technique based Hybrid Series APF for Harmonic Mitigation

2021
In this paper, a hybrid active power filter tuned with an antlion optimization technique (ALO) has been proposed for the purpose of harmonic mitigation. The word hybrid here means it is the combination of the passive filters connected in parallel to the non- linear loads such as RLC and RL loads along with the active power filter to be in series with the load. The purpose of using the antlion optimization technique is to properly tune the circuit in order to reduce the harmonics in the source current and the load voltage. An ALO is basically a swarm intelligence-based technique that has been used to tune the controller gains so to regulate the required DC output voltage. The synchronous reference method or the dq theory has been used to generate the compensating signals. The above hybrid filter along with proposed optimization technique works significantly in harmonic elimination and the obtained THD results is well within the limits defined in IEEE standard (IEEE 519). In order to justify the work, a simulink model has been developed in MATLAB and the obtained results that includes Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) are explained thoroughly.
