An Efficient Data Transmission Strategy for Cyber-Physical Systems in the Complicated Environment

2015
Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems are deployed in harsh and noisy environments for process measurement and control applications. Missing or delaying of the process data may severely degrade the overall control performance. Methods compensating for the high probability of bit errors accompanying wireless transmissions in Cyber-Physical Systems are needed. In this paper, a way of combining retransmissions with real-time scheduling analysis is presented. The presented solution handles several retransmission attempts of erroneous data without jeopardizing the guaranteed delay bounds of other packets. A real-time analysis that utilizes the retransmission scheme is provided. A simulation study is presented that evaluates the performance of the retransmission scheme for bit-error rates. The results indicate a possible reduction of the message error rate by several orders of magnitude.
