Fault Detection and Compensation Strategy of Brushless DC Motor with Fault in Hall Sensors

2019
The paper presents a novel fault detection and compensation strategy for Hall sensors failure of brushless DC motor. The differences of Hall signal sequences between healthy and fault status are used to detect the failure sensors, and a speed prediction method is proposed to detect the fault of advanced and delayed Hall edge signals whenever it happens. To reduce the performance fluctuation of the motor after sensors failure, an observer-based compensation strategy is established. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control methods.
