Nanoparticles Addition in Coir‐Basalt‐Innegra Fibers Reinforced Bio-synthetic Epoxy Composites

2021
In the present investigation, the influence of coir micro-particles and titanium carbide (TiC) nanofillers on mechanical characteristics and thermal stability of basalt-Innegra fiber-reinforced bio/synthetic epoxy hybrid composites were studied. The mechanical, thermal and physical properties (water absorption, surface wettability, and porosity) were determined. Characterization techniques such as SEM, TGA, and FTIR spectra have been performed to investigate the modification in the structure of epoxy hybrid composites. From the results, it was found that the reinforcement of TiC nanofillers and coir fiber micro-particles in basalt-Innegra fiber reinforced epoxy composites exhibited a significant increment in thermal stability and mechanical properties with the efficient load transfer between the matrix, fillers, and fabrics. Furthermore, the addition of coir micro-particles and TiC nanofillers as an intrinsic reinforcement filler positively influence the thermal stability of epoxy hybrid laminates reinforced with basalt and Innegra fabrics.
