WhenEbmcould bemadehigh, itserves so astoimprovethepowerconversion efficiency ofa magnetron. Thus,thenewlydeveloped magnetron with7% higher oscillation cut-off voltage thanthepresent conventional oneismanufactured byMatsushita Electric Industrial Co.Ltd, Inaddition tothis, theutility AC powerline current reduced harmonic typedirect inverter AC-DCpowerconverter suitable andacceptable fordriving this magnetron isproposed inthis paper. Thisdirect highfrequency inverter typesoft switching PWM AC-DCconverter hasthevoltage-boost function based onactive clampschemewithsoft switching pulse modulation strategy topology. Thispaperdescribes a noveltypeactive clampAC-DCpowerconverter circuit defined asdirect high frequency inverter andtheswitching operation ofthis power converter isdescribed anddiscussed onthebasis ofsimulation andexperimental results. Theoperating characteristics ofthis softswitching direct highfrequency inverter typeAC-DC powerconverter using IGBTsthatincorporates theharmonic current improvement aswellaspowerfactor correction are evaluated anddiscussed froma practical point ofviewas compared withtheconventional AC-DCpowerconverter.
