AN ACCOUNT OF PRELIMINARY COMPUTER STUDIES OF EXTRACTION IN A VARIABLE ENERGY CYCLOTRON

Computer studies made on the fields from the 1/7th scale model of the variable-energy cyclotron to be built at Harwell are discussed. One of the decisions that had to be made before engineering could be initiated was the orientation and sense of the magnetic field spiral ridges. This depended partly on ease of extraction. Details of the work done in running different ions through electrostatic channels are given. (auth)
