Nanocosmetics for broadband light protection sun care products

Abstract Recent advances in the research into skin protection from damage caused by the sun, clearly illustrates the need to adjust photoprotection policies. The old idea of sunbathing for short periods of time (without using sunscreen) and avoiding overexposure, even with filter application, seems to be the best option available. Comprehensive photoprotection necessarily requires new technologies and we hypothesize that nanoscience will play important roles in this regard. We separate possible fields of development into sun blocking, antioxidant, and excited-state suppressors and membrane protection. Examples of each of the developments in these fields involving nanoscience are described and analyzed in this chapter.
