Computational intelligence in Internet of things for future healthcare applications

2021
Abstract Natural processes and mechanisms have long fascinated humans, motivating the development of effective practical solutions for real-world problems and giving rise to a new domain, computational intelligence (CI). Recent advancements in technology also have made Internet of things (IoT) popular in a variety of fields, such as smart healthcare, medical robotics, smart farming, smart homes, etc., and have generated a vast amount of heterogeneous data from real-world applications. The use of modern, efficient techniques is important to handle these enormous generated data requirements. CI is the science of developing intelligent systems based on computational techniques and certainly offers an arsenal of tools that can be tailored to meet the continuously rising and demanding needs of IoT applications. Thus, the field is attracting much attention from researchers in academia as well as industry. CI and IoT are expected to shape the Future Internet of Things in many ways. Therefore, the aim of this chapter is to bring together innovative developments in human healthcare and agricultural healthcare sectors, including advancements in intelligent algorithms, as well as successful IoT applications. In addition, this chapter leverages the challenges and opportunities of intelligent healthcare IoT.
