Progress in genetics of {\sl Triticum urartu}

2004
Triticum urartu is the donor of A genome to tetraploid wheats and bread wheat. It plays the important roles in the development and evolution of common wheat (Triticum avetium). Firstly, this paper introduces its discovery, morphological characteristics and its position in taxonomy. Then it reviews the progress in genetics of T. urartu in its genetic diversities, the relationship between it and other species in Triticum, construction of library and 1Ay high molecular weight glutenin subunit (HMW-GS) gene. In order to speed up the study on genetics, it is suggested that the studies on discovery of its elite genes, construction of its genetic linkage map, probes and primers for SSRs should be done in this paper.
