Transient Stability Enhancement of Power System Including Large-Scale Wind Farm by the Coordinated Control of Adjustable-Speed Pumped-Storage Generator and Battery

2019
Nowadays penetration level of wind farm (WF) into the power system has increased rapidly. However, the increasing penetration can lead to the power system instability during network disturbance and the power system may become unstable. A novel frequency control strategy using adjustable speed pumped storage generators (ASG) and battery is proposed in this paper to enhance the entire system transient stability during a trip of fixed speed wind turbines using squirrel cage induction generators (FSWT-SCIGs) based WF due to a severe short circuit fault. The proposed control strategy has been evaluated by simulation analysis on a model system composed of conventional synchronous generators (SGs), ASG, battery, and SCIG-based WF. Obtained results clearly show that the presented control method can effectively prevent the instability of the model system.
