A c-VEP BCI System for Psychological Experiments

2019
Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) is a technology based on Neuroscience, Artificial Intelligence and Signal Processing. Its application in the fields of medical treatment and rehabilitation engineering has been widely studied. This paper aims to explore a new application of BCI in psychological experiments. We developed a c-VEP BCI system for psychological experiments, which enables the participants of the experiments to express their choices only by gazing at the intended option. In the traditional experiments, the participants are usually asked to transmit their decisions by pressing buttons. In this system, the options exhibited on the screen are flashed according to different m-sequences and the intentions of participants are recognized by classifying VEPs in EEG signals during the periods when they are focusing on the options. This system has been used to support a psychological experiment, showing the feasibility and value of introducing BCI into psychological studies.
