MARTA TRAIN CONTROL SYSTEM--A VIEW FROM THE WAYSIDE

This paper describes the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) train control system. The major operational features are discussed to direct the reader's attention to the relative importance of the wayside subsystem. The MARTA system is described through five major operational features, with special emphasis on the wayside subsystem as a local point of system operations. The aspects of the automatic and manual modes of operation are explained in detail to emphasize the attention that has been given to the design of the system to ensure uninterrupted service.
