Analysis and validation of a dynamic model for PMSM with stator fault

2015
In this paper, the analysis and validation of a dynamic model for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSMs) with stator faults is presented. A proper dynamic model including stator faults is required in order to propose and validate model-based fault detection strategies. Unlike other models which include a stator fault in one of the phase windings, we propose a 3-phase model for PMSMs that allows including the interturn short-circuit fault in any phase-windings. In the experimental tests, a PMSM prototype with modified stator windings is used. This prototype allows adjusting the fault severity from 0, 4 %–4 % turns, with respect to the total turns of the complete-phase winding. Simulation results are contrasted with experiment tests to validate the PMSM model including stator faults.
