Study on Hazard of Mesotrione

The handling hazard of mesotrione was researched in this paper.[Methods] The thermal stability of mesotrione was tested by using differential scanning calorimetry-thermal gravimetric(DSC-TG),and its combustion properties was researched as well.[Results] The conclusion was that the oxygen balance of mesotrione was-129.7 with potential combustible and explosive properties.Dry mesotrione decomposition temperature was 170 °C and with higher risk of thermal runaway.Dry mesotrione exhibited train-firing properties at ambient temperature.The combustion propagated fully along 100 mm of the train in a time of 10 seconds when its temperature reached 50 °C.It was recommended to store and transport mesotrione with the form of water wet paste.
