Riassunto : Il Marino Faliero di Casimir Delavigne illustra bene le difficolta in cui un’opera di teatro poteva imbattersi ancora negli ultimi anni della Restaurazione. Accolta «par acclamation» dalla Comedie-Francaise, Marino Faliero si scontro dapprima con la politica di apertura alla «nouvelle ecole» romantica voluta da Taylor, poi con l’impossibilita, almeno teorica, di un teatro minore come la Porte Saint-Martin di rappresentare una tragedia in versi quale l’opera in realta era, infine con una censura che ne avrebbe impedito la rappresentazione, senza il probabile intervento personale di Martignac, il capo del governo dell’epoca, che vide in Casimir Delavigne un prezioso alleato nella politica moderatamente liberale da lui perseguita. Abstract : Casimir Delavigne’s Marino Faliero clearly shows what sort of difficulties a theatrical work could still encounter during the final years of the Restoration period. Although it was initially accepted «par acclamation» by the Comedie Francaise, it clashed with the policy of openness towards the Romantic «nouvelle ecole» envisaged by Taylor ; moreover it was impossible, at least in theory, for a minor theatre such as La Porte Saint-Martin to put on a production of a work that was practically in verse. Finally, it encountered opposition from the Censorship that would have prevented its performance, but for the likely personal intervention of Martignac, who was at that time Prime minister and who saw in Delavigne an invaluable ally in the pursuit of a liberal policy.
